Newsletter  - January 2003   -  Issue No.6

Welcome to this edition of the Newsletter for the Lisnavagh Timber Project (LTP)

Our current supplies & stock

We currently have stocks of oak, ash, elm, beech, spalted beech, elm, wych elm, lime, birch, sycamore, pine and larch. We also have several burrs and off cuts of wych elm.

Current stock amounts to just short of 2000 cu ft.

A summary of stock and price list are now available, upon request.

Our resources

We have identified trees that would be suitable for inclusion in next years sawing programme at Lisnavagh, including some more elm. This work will commence in the early spring as there is likely, as always, to be some fallen timber coming available before then - depending on what the rest of the winter holds in store!

Other resources

LTP can source timber for clients from locations outside Lisnavagh when this is appropriate (e.g. for volumes of timber that we do not have in stock). This is because we feel that every enquiry SHOULD result in a sale if at all possible, even it means several telephone calls to other suppliers. We aim to be highly competitive, and we believe that there is generally enough room within the pricing structure of hardwood timber to achieve attractive prices and still retain a profit margin for our efforts.

A scheme, which would encourage owners of other farms & estates to "partner" with the LTP is being considered. If you would like to be part of this scheme, please contact William Bunbury (

As always, every plank of hardwood timber that comes off the sawbench is reference numbered, measured and catalogued on our comprehensive database.

This database is the key to the traceability of our timber and allows us to trace timber in a piece of furniture back to the stump of the tree that it came from, with a full history of why the tree was felled or why it came down, along with what measures were taken to replace the tree. To date, few customers have actually dmanded to "inspect their tree stump", but several have said they feel reassured that this is entirely possible without difficulty.

Sales & Marketing

Enquiries & Sales were relatively low in November & early December, but have picked up considerably in the last three weeks with a notable number of new customers & enquiries emerging. Perhaps the festive season gave rise to some excellent word-of-mouth marketing by our exisiting customers!

Our web site and word-of-mouth continue to be our greatest marketing tools for bringing in new customers.

There are also leaflets and flyers explaining the Project. If you would like to obtain some, please contact William Bunbury. (See below).
